The world is getting cleaner. Or, at least, that’s where the global effort is focused. According to water.org, one in ten people globally lack access to safe water. That’s approximately 663 million people worldwide. In low and middle-income countries, approximately 1/3 of all healthcare facilities lack a safe water source.
That’s one of the places where nonwoven products come in. Expanding the nonwoven filter market can help give more people access to clean water via filtration.
According to a study by Grandview Research, the filtration market is expected to continue to rise through 2022, with an increased focus on meltblown products.

Other application areas expected to continue to grow in the nonwoven filter market are air filtration products. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has published guidelines healthcare facilities are expected to follow to prohibit the spread of airborne bacteria and viruses. The first key recommendation noted is the impact of infection control in the ventilation and water systems.
Again, that’s where nonwoven products come in. The requirements for air filtration in healthcare environments are stringent. Depending on the process used in product manufacturing, nonwoven filtration products can be manufactured with increased barrier protection against micro-organisms and even non-disease particles that can act as a vehicle for spreading bacteria. Additionally, nonwoven filters in these environments should be manufactured for moisture resistance.
But the filtration market is bigger still. Transportation markets continue to need cabin filters and oil filters. According to Statista, about 73.9 million vehicles were expected to sell in the US alone. That’s 73.9 million filters JUST for the NEW vehicles. That’s a pretty extensive market. And, fortunately for filter manufacturers, automotive filters are a commodity that all cars on the road require!
Additional applications for the filtration market include: food and beverage; petroleum; semiconductor; and energy.
The filtration market is continuing to grow and there is more than enough room for additional manufacturers and converters to enter. Talk to your nonwoven manufacturing partner to help you engineer the best nonwoven product for your application.
