Reaching Every Man, Woman and Child: Nonwovens in Consumer Products

Nonwovens_-_Consumer_Products.jpgThe definition of a consumer product is “a tangible product for sale that is used by a person or a household for non-business purposes.”  Basically, a consumer product includes almost everything you find in your house. 

But where are the nonwovens?  To reference an earlier blog post, they are EVERYWHERE.  They are in diapers, adult incontinence products, feminine hygiene products, consumer product packaging, cleaning products, furniture, window coverings, clothing, food products, pet products and…well, the list is seemingly endless. 

The only thing limiting nonwoven applications in the consumer products arena appears to imagination. 

Nonwoven fabrics make consumer products lighter, stronger, more absorbent and, we have to say it, simply better.  

And the market is enormous. It’s a little challenging to find statistics that accurately portray the vastness of the market, but one market research company estimated that the US market alone was worth $419.4 billion in 2012.  And, as consumers feel more and more comfortable with market growth, those numbers keep climbing because people keep buying.

So, where do nonwovens fit in?  What application can manufacturers and converters focus on to gain access to this market? 

The list is long.  We’ll use this for starters:

Feminine hygiene

Adult incontinence

Power equipment

Disposable dusting cloths

Floor cleaning cloths

Toilet cleaning products

Cosmetic applicators

Facial wipes

That list only touches the surface of what is currently out there.  It doesn’t even address the applications where nonwovens COULD solve a problem or enhance an existing product.  

It’s a great time to be in nonwovens.  The consumer products market is a wide open playground.
